One of the hallmarks of the union system in the workplace is a collective approach to the ability to achieve wages and conditions of employment. This section contains information on employment matters, including relevant laws and the management of a contract, whether you have an Individual Agreement (EIA) or the PHC Multi Employer Collective Agreement (MECA). Aotearoa New Zealand is going through a phase of rapid change in pay equity in the health sector. After many years of campaigning for improved wages and conditions in the elderly care sector, trade unions (including the NZNOs) won a major amendment to the law in 2017 in the form of the Living Support Services Settlement Agreement. The agreement resulted in a seismic postponement of pay rates and recognition of the training of nursing and auxiliary staff. In addition, a law to promote pay equity in other historically female professions was introduced in Parliament at the end of 2017 in the form of the Employment Act (Equal Pay and Pay Equity). . . .
